The HeartStart FR2/FR2+ Infant/Child Defibrillator Pads (M3870A) are specifically designed for treating infants and children under 8 years of age or weighing less than 55 pounds with a Philips FR2-series defibrillator.
These pads feature advanced electronics that attenuate, or reduce, the shock energy from the defibrillator’s typical 150 joules to a safer 50 joules, delivering the appropriate SMART Biphasic therapy for young patients. The FR2-series defibrillator works seamlessly with these pads, accurately assessing pediatric heart rhythms for precise treatment.
Designed for clear identification, the pads feature intuitive packaging, graphics, and a pink teddy bear-shaped connector, ensuring that these pediatric pads are easily distinguishable from adult pads. This thoughtful design helps prevent errors and ensures readiness when responding to emergencies involving both adults and children.
QmedAED recommends keeping extra sets of Child defibrillator pads nearby, especially in places where many children are present, to stay prepared for emergencies.

How to change your HeartStart FR2 AED Pads
To change the electrode pads for your Philips HeartStart FR2 AED:
- Open the AED by lifting the lid to access the battery and electrode pad compartment.
- Remove the used pads from the compartment and dispose of them properly.
- Connect the electrode pads cable to the AED connector.
- Place the pads on the patient’s chest as per the provided placement guide.
- Ensure the pads are securely attached, and the AED will automatically begin the self-test process to confirm readiness.
